Biography: Sebastiane Hegarty is an artist and lecturer. His work is primarily time-based and includes, installation, sound, photography, performance, drawing and text. In June 2003 he completed the first practice-led PhD (Sculpture) at Winchester School of Art/University of Southampton. Building on the foundations of this research (The Presence of Absence), his recent practice explores time, place and remembering, in particular the loss inherent in the act of record. His sound work includes field recordings and manipulated sound compositions.
In 2004, in collaboration with Dr Matt Cuttle (School of Biomedical Sciences /University of Southampton) and Hampshire Dance, he composed a ‘soundscape for movement’ for the Wellcome Trust funded dance project; Innervations. Recent work has been featured on Drift: Resonant Cities (New Media Scotland), and Radio Taxi (Taxi Gallery: Cambridge)

Program Notes: Bellevue and Longwave formed the audio components of the installation Audrey Please Knock (2000): Bellevue entered the installation through two air vents in the walls of an empty room; Longwave entered through a number of radios in the space outside this room.
Within the installation the pieces were played as simultaneous and continuous loops: the loops, being of unequal length, generated a continually evolving soundscape.

Longwave, is recomposed from field recordings, radio noise and fragments of found sound (including audiocassette letters sent to England from Canada). The piece also includes an audio recording of the solar eclipse in 1999 (recorded on St. Catherine’s Hill, Winchester).
SPECIAL FEATURES: Longwave is highly fragmented and includes: sudden moments of silence/noise; interrupted voice; electrical and radio interference; intermittent noise and glitch.
